Hi guys!

Since a lot of us have seen their TBR significantly growing while the world went crazy, I thought it would be interesting to take a closer look at my own TBR.
How has your book buying been going recently? Has your TBR grown?
How many books are on your TBR shelf?

Love the intro - feels like I have just strolled into a vintage 50s cafe! Have The Secret History - and want to read East of Eden at some point too.

I might do this TBR too! It's fun! I'll mention you if I do 😊😊

Jeyyy, also looking forward to the Thirteenth tale! :D
I try not to have too many ebooks, because I completely forget I own them. Out of sight, out of mind! And on that subject, I have East of Eden as well, but I hid it behind other books because I don't want to be reminded of it as I want to get to the other books in my TBR first.

I think you’ll really like the Thirteenth Tale!! It been a while since I read it but I remember that it was very atmospheric.

My goodreads TBR currently has 508 books on it lol. I don’t really use it as a true TBR list but more as a way to bookmark books that seem interesting to me.

The only books on our shelves I don't plan on reading are the ones Daniel bought that are in French since I don't speak it. 😅🙈

I have two tbr lists as well - my physical books and want to read but don't own list. Like you I also don't really buy ebooks either, it's just the free ones on there and review copies. I am also a mood reader! I really need to read more John Steinbeck as well. I also prefer reviews before new releases. Backlist books call to me the most <3 I have too many books on my tbr.

Just want to let you know that my dog hasn't read Little Women yet.

East of Eden is massive, but it's very very good. You'll smash through it.

Not being a contact creator myself allows me to be a mood reader. My reading would be much more structured if I had to think ahead about what I was going to present in upcoming videos. I too have a master Excel doc of books I want to read. The count is currently in the hundreds. Recently, I started shading the many I actually own. It’s an evolving process 😆. Like you, I usually read back-listed books that I’ve purchased from library sales or charity shops. Sometimes I’ll buy a new book for a book club reading. “East of Eden” is an easy to read novel, you will breeze through it. Of the Steinbeck novels I’ve read it was the most enjoyable. “The Secret History” by Tartt is on my want to read list as well. It’s decades since I enjoyed reading “Little Women”. If given a choice for a re-read, I would definitely choose “East of Eden” over “Little Women.”

For what it’s worth, I think you can leave East of Eden on the bottom of your pile for a lot longer and wouldn’t be worse off for it. I made it to about page 180 before I threw it away in disgust.
I loathed The Secret History too, but I’m not surprised people are drawn in by it. But the thing is, what might look like a clever and sophisticated premise (dionysian revelry gone bacchanalia scandal in New England boarding school) is just basic and tacky af when you have a background in both German studies and classics, and no self-respecting scholar would ever go there. Donna Tartt thinks of herself as oh-so-cultured, but really she’s just cheap.
I have roughly 200 physical books on my tbr, plus some ebooks. I think it’s because English books can be hard to get or expensive unless they’re relatively recent and from a mainstream US/UK publisher. So when I see one that I want, and especially if it’s used and affordable, I don’t think twice and just go and grab it. And so they keep accumulating…

I know I'm late to this but from what I've seen you've made a good start in getting through these books, have you finished The Thirteenth Tale? I remember seeing it on Goodreads but don't know if I remember you finishing it. I've never read Little Women haha but then again I haven't read a lot of classics. Hahaha I think you have a lot of unread books, I don't know if there's an appropriate amount but I would feel so anxious if I had 100 unread lol
