Why is it always a juicy skeleton? No hate, just curious, since i often see in folklore that the appearance sometimes changes based on how or where the death occurred. I kind of expected a sea creature or at least something tying it to the place.

I think we need more underwater horror. Being underwatewr is already somewhat scary, as we are much more vulnerable, relying on out technology heavily.
But, add in a bunch of horror elements and it gets 10x more horrifying.
