What to do if you broke your finger

If you brake your finger and it's not badly displaced, you may simply need a splint or buddy taping. However, if the finger is angulated, shortened or rotated, you may need surgery.

I think it's broken. The tip where it bends is uneven. There's a substantial hard lump on one side. I think it got jammed really bad when a lever snapped back into place today. It had a spring loaded effect even though it didn't have a spring. Was wearing gloves and I think they saved my finger from being gashed open. Sigh! Tonight I'll tape it or something until I can get to the nearest VA facility.

Question. I broke my pinky finger 6 months ago. It broke at the first joint towards my palm. Apparently a 2.6mm piece broke and impacted into the finger, then I also had a crack down the finger.

The problem is I cant close it when making a fist. I try stretching it constantly but I cant seem to get the finger to close when making a fist. Thoughts on what I should do?

I had surgery and regret it. My broken pinky was the break where it was slightly lower than my other pinky. Sure I might have lost the use of pinky. But now I cannot bend my pinky index or middle finger. The inflammation is almost unbearable.

Hi thank you for your video dr. Can I ask you why it would hurt a lot more in buddy tape - it’s not too tight and done good. I had an injury fell on it and it was swollen and bruised and couldn’t move. I taped it and 3 days later swelling bruising down and you could see my second knuckle was to the side and I accidentally hit it and it went back in so was dislocated at the pip joint. I can move a little more but still can’t move it by a curtain point. So I think I broke and dislocated it. Buddy tape hurts so much more than it’s out. Is this because it’s broken? It’s now stiff, numbness at the tip and a bit colder then the rest

not sure if I broke it or not but the swelling and bruising have gone down but it got cold to the touch. is this normal and why is it cold?

All I know is I watch a video for my monthly 8 months ago and I don't know if my finger is actually really broken accidentally said on it my thumb was up and then I heard a crack cuz I'm not very sure I did I watch all the videos but I'm not sure it's actually broken or whatever

Pls doctor I had two of my fingers crushed in a mixer machine but one got damaged badly and it bone got broken in the middle, though It was stiched but the bone wasn't straighten an now it all healed up bent and stiffed....pls can I still undergo surgery to staiten the fingers bone

My middle finger is swollen because of an accident yesterday. It looks straight. I can move it but it hurts. Where it hurts the most is at the middle knuckle. Please tell in how much time it will heal and what happened to my finger

I recently broke my finger at the middle knuckle. Bin in a splint for almost 3 weeks and it’s still really stiff. So much that I can’t bend it yet. When should I be able to bend it close to normal again?
