I’ve been driving a 1972 Targa MFI for nearly 25 years - even as a daily driver at times. But always at least 3 days a week - Fri-Sun.
Last week I look delivery of a ‘96 993 with 27K miles on the ODO. And I simply cannot believe how advanced and refined it is over my ‘72.
And yet it’s still CLEARLY a 911!

Very informative! Would love to see a Design Review of the 991.1 2S. For me it's a nearly ideal transition to a more modern design with its body colored rear grill, side mounted twin exhaust tips, traditional door handles, wide rear arches, along with clean simple lines that are faithful to the original forms.

Surely the very last truly 911 for the romantics. I had some difficulties with this video though, distracted by the stunning architecture background. Once upon a time I was invited to a castle named Schaubeck where Harm Lagaay introduced to a small crowd of guests the brand new 993 explaining how it was designed based on the highlights of the iconic form going even back to the 356. I never forget …(he explained that the highlights = reflections of the form were defining guides to shape…)

Necessity is the mother of invention. Given the limited resources, the 993 was certainly a brilliant update of what was by then an ancient platform and speaks to the depth of talent at the firm and quality of it culture. That said, latterly I find the 993's proportions betray its inherent compromise more obviously. It doesn't quite work. It's most obvious when you see one driving on the road. The tall, thin glasshouse doesn't match the relatively wide hips. But it does still look great from some angles.
