BYU Football & Kalani Sitake NEED to Identify Their Starting QB or Risk Issues | BYU Cougars Podcast

The BYU Cougars are beginning game week preparations for their season-opener against the Southern Illinois Salukis and Jake Hatch says he hopes that Kalani Sitake, Aaron Roderick and the rest of the brain trust inside the BYU football program have at least an idea of who their starting quarterback is at this point, no matter if it's Jake Retzlaff or Gerry Bohanon.

Jake then talked about a poll of college basketball coaches nationally that identified the BYU men's basketball program as a top-three program in terms of best name. likeness or image (NIL) situations nationally and why it is an advantageous spot for Kevin Young to be at Brigham Young University (BYU) as he continues to raise to profile of the BYU basketball program nationally.

Finally, the show wrapped up with our weekly listener mailbag segment and Jake answered questions about improvements BYU athletics could make in relation to BYU football, what he's seen from the BYU offensive line that gives him confidence, how his EA CFB25 dynasty has gone and who he expects will be named team captains for the BYU football program, among others.

It is amazing to me what a good head coach and staff can do for recruiting in basketball. Wish the same could be said for football. There is a huge difference between the 2 programs right now.

You've been around long enough to know that the BYU football program most assuredly knows who the starting QB is. My question is why doesn't the coaching staff have the stones to announce their choice. That is not a sign of strength coming from Aaron Rodrick.

If in fact both QB’s are competing at the same high level with 10 days to go, it makes more sense to go with Retzlaff as he has two years of eligibility, vs. one for Bohanen. However, word has it that Retzlaff has also pulled ahead in the sessions that have not been open to the public or press. If that is true, then it makes even more sense to go with Retzlaff. Therefore, I think the logical and smart decision has already been made: Retzlaff with start game 1.

I am pretty sure the Team already knows who the starting quarterback is for next Friday. I am good if they don’t make the announcement until next Thursday or even Friday. Fans and the other team don’t need to know until then. As long as the team and coaches know that’s what is important. Just be patient and be surprised! Either one will be good for the first game, then we will see what they can do in a real game environment.

He's crazy to give up even one of our first three games to try to prove a point with Retzlaff. If he does and misses a bowl? He deserves to be uncerimoniously booted...

Jay Hill should be head coach. Kalani is a great personality and possible assistant or well known position coach, but he just isn't the head coach to run a successful program. Jay Hill has absolutely proven to be head coach material and recruit and develop great while he was at Weber State.

Just too many crazy factors, 4-8 to 8-4 are all possible. I personally know a starter, he won’t say or confirm who the starter for QB is.

There's no way BYU sells out week 1. I doubt they will be running out in front of 63, 000 a week from Saturday.
