During the fall of 2020, the CHEST Foundation held virtual events in five U.S. cities as part of a
nationwide listening tour. The event brought together civic leaders, clinicians, specialists, and patients to provide a platform for these patients who have fought for access to care to share their stories.

The discussions focused on identifying barriers to accessing medical care,
breakdowns in trust between patients and caregivers, and how to achieve
equity in treatment for people of color and disenfranchised communities.

Both Americans living with chronic
lung disease and those diagnosed with COVID-19 are disproportionately
made up of vulnerable populations, who often do not have resources to
seek medical treatment or afford needed medical devices and medication.
The COVID-19 pandemic worsened already dramatic disparities across the U.S. Chicago between those who can afford health care and those
who cannot.
