There was another Indian martial art called mushthi yuddha. It was a form of Indian freestyle boxing that allowed hits using all limbs and even grappling. The South Indian kings introduced the martial art in Thailand and Myanmar after occupying them and now we have Muay boran and lethwei which are just forms of mushthi yuddha. Later the British banned the martial art because they deemed it to be too violent when in reality they were just getting beaten up by the mushthi yuddha fighters and not even their pistols could protect them because the fighters were able to disarm them effectively.

Western civilization ignored all pertaining to India. I am not indian but was drawn to India long before my preteens. Always felt my last incarnation was as an Indian from INDIA. India will increasingly capture the minds of other non-Indians, inevitable.

It's believed that Lord Shiva was the first Guru of Kalaripayattu. He taught this technique to Lord Parashurama and lord Karthikeya. From Lord Karthikeya Saint Agasthya also learnt this technique. Later Agasthya and Karthikeya came to south and this art flourished in South Tamilnadu and after feeling guilt for his brutality towards Kshatriyas Lord Parashurama also went to South to meditate. Gokharana in Karnataka was his Tapobhoomi and to people from Gokarana to south he taught this technique. That's why Kalari in Northern Kerala and South Kerala is having two styles.Lord Shiva and Hanuman is placed in Kalari's. There are arguments that word Kalari is derived from, Khaloorika (Goddess of Kalari ) or Tamil word "Kaloori "( College ) .

Anyway its a known fact that during the primary ages of Sea Trade "Vajrabodhi" aka "Bodhidharman" from South Carried this technique to Shaolin temple in China and which later flourished as Kung fu throughout the world
