HART BAGERI (POP-UP IN MELBOURNE)

Hands up if you’re like me, and have been perving on @hartbageri IG profile for years and years, wishing how much to try some of their baked goods (no trip to Denmark for me yet 🙁). Well, guess what? @richardhartbaker the founder has come all the way from Copenhagen to pop up at @melbourneqtr for a week as part of the @melbfoodandwine 2025 program.

A dream come true for us: if you are willing to get up early and stand in line (it’s Melbourne, obviously there is a queue, and queue you will). The advertised opening hours are 9am to 1pm, but when I went today (Monday, 24 March), everything was sold out by 11am. You have four more chances to have a taste: Tuesday (25 March) until Friday (28 March); perhaps there will be more stock, I don’t know.

I tried, and loved (like, really):
• city loaf (the standard signature white sourdough)
• seeded rye loaf
• Danish morning bun with cheese
• Basque cheesecake
• cardamom bun
• sablé Breton with Vegemite caramel

Aside from having had such delicious bakes, it was an absolute pleasure to have met and chatted with Richard (and get an autographed cookbook; btw I can’t wait to try out that panettone recipe!).
