The British North America Act was 1867, which established Canada as a Dominion. Canada’s constitution was only established in (I think) 1982

Ah, "Jeopardy!" I always love when they have a Canadian category. Guaranteed it will (a) be the last category selected, (b) have the fewest buzz-ins, and (c) have the most incorrect answers.

If you notice, this takes place in downtown Toronto. Explains the lack of knowledge about the country.

William Lyon Mackenzie King was born in my hometown of Kitchener Ontario (when it was known as Berlin). His childhood home is still standing.

Okay the very first question is wrong.

In 1867 the British North America Act was signed. And that is what it was called until 1982 when the Constitution Act was passed. You can quibble about whether the Act was passed in 1982 or amended. But between 1867 and 1982 the only document in existence was the British North America Act. This is one reason why right at the beginning of the quiz before messed up a little bit because the quiz is using the wrong term.

It's sort of like how in 1914 the Great War began. It wasn't until 1939 that it started to be referred to as World War I and the second one referred to as World War II.

The “constitution act” was not passed in 1867. The British North America Act was passed in 1867 and RENAMED the Constitution Act in 1982.

Canada was not fully independent in 1867.
Confederation: 1867
Dominion equal to the UK: 1931
Real independence: 1982

When I was in school the Constitution Acts were referred to as the British North America Acts.

The act brought created the Dominion of Canada in 1867 was the British North American Act or BNA. The Constitution Act was 1982.

The four original provinces to sign the BNA act were Upper and Lower Canada (much later became Quebec and Ontario) New Brunswick Canada Nova Scotia so everyone got that question wrong

In fairness, I was thrown off by the phrasing of the question. We don't usually talk about the Constitution Act, and there are several versions of since. I think most Canadians could correctly answer when Confederation was - 1867.

Montrealers of my age tend to remember 1867 cuz during the centennial year, 1967, we had a world's fair, Expo '67. It was a big thing.

You did well. Only knew three of the original provinces and did not know Mackenzie was the longest serving. That was fun testing our knowledge.

I’m 32 and got 4/5.. I said Laurier for the last one ( he actually was the longest consecutively serving PM) so I was close haha. Also I’m from PEI so I have the year of confederation engrained in me as that year is plastered everywhere in Charlottetown because the city’s slogan is “The birthplace of confederation”.
