I don’t think we’re getting the full story here. If her parents abandoned her, then who is paying for college? And who is paying for those summer study abroad programs? If it’s her parents then they haven’t abandoned her. This sounds more like she was behaving badly at home and was given an ultimatum that to live under her parents roof she must follow their rules. She doesn’t get to claim abandonment when she moved out (to go to college) and her parents are paying for it. And if the parents did abandon her why would they be complaining to the relatives that their daughter doesn’t visit them? They would be justifying their actions to the relatives. This story does not make sense to me, imo.
