This is the all-new Honda Civic Hatchback Sport, and it's 1.5L Turbocharged engine with 6-speed manual transmission, the first time Honda has offered that combination on our shores. It has the same wheelbase, width, and roughly the same low weight as the Civic sedan and coupe, and the sport trim gives you aggressive bodywork, blacked out wheels, and the optional six speed. What we find is that it's very easy to drive, efficient, reasonably fun, and offers the space of a Focus or Jetta at the price, and weight, of a Fiesta.

Honda provided the car, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review.

I love that Honda doesn't put stupid giant plastic engine covers on their cars.

It's been 4 years since I purchased my Civic. Originally coming from an Acura RSX, I naturally wanted an si coupe but was itching for extra space I had from a ford explorer I used to own. The hatchback seemed to meet the best of both worlds for me, so I got the sport hatch with the 1.5 turbo and 6 speed manual.

I'm sitting around 68k miles and the car has had no reliability issues whatsoever. I have taken it on many multi-state trips over 1, 000 miles each and the car eats it up no problem with decent economy. The car has only been to the tire shop and a mechanic once for brakes service. Other than that, just simple oil changes and tire rotations have done this car great. I'd also like to mention I installed a KTuner stage 2 tune on the car and it is now faster than an si with 220 hp and 260 lb/ft. Car still purrs along and takes it like it's nothing.

I agree on the seats being a weak point on this car. The lack of lumbar and the rough-feeling cloth don't really help on longer trips, but it doesn't dig in too much to the driving experience as it rides well over 95% of bumps with the 18" wheels.

This car is a beast for what you pay for, though. Throw some stickier tires and a tune on it and it's essentially my own "si hatch" with around 220 hp and 260 lb/ft. Has very good road mannerisms at any speed. Fastest I've been yet is 147mph on a closed track, but definitely could hit around 160 if given enough straightaway space. If you add the CTR rear sway bar and an aftermarket front strut tower bar it'll handle near perfect for most people.

If anyone is in the market for a 10th gen civic hatchback, get one. 11/10 best car I've owned to date and would probably buy again.

Hey Matt — as a guy who likes to both drive cars fast and ride bikes fast on backroads like these, thanks for being an understanding guy when it comes to cyclists. Road cyclists are actually pretty similar to car enthusiasts; we love going as fast as possible and pushing limits on winding, fast roads. Cheers!

Why is everyone acting as if this is supposed to be a "hot hatchback". This is just an economy car. They aren't gonna sound great or be that fast. Judge it as a sports car when the si and the type r come out.

They need an Si version of the new Civic Hatchback.

I bet Matt feels like he's slowly walking in cars like this after driving those +500hp cars.

As a car enthusiast and a cyclist, thank you for not speeding by the cyclist in your video! Awesome content, thanks Matt!

As a cyclist, and a car guy, I gotta say that I very much appreciate the way that you share the road with cyclists.

We all love to go out and play in the canyons and it's great when drivers respect our space.

Thx Matt!

I really like the reviews of new consumer cars vs new super cars. I feel like they fit the canyons better and are more informative to your audience Matt. Good video!

I would love to see one of these with ONE giant muffler on it.

Thats what I like about the VW and Honda turbo engines, that they make more of their power on top rather than giving it to you all at once then die out at redline. I'm the type who likes a progressive powerband, and thats still achievable with forced induction.

I really think not offering the Si in this hatchback configuration is a mistake. I'm probably not going to be able to afford the Type-R, but I want more than the base hatch offers as far as performance.

A BOV, some basic bolt-ons, exhaust and tune would make this car a really fun and inexpensive daily driver. I would buy. 22K is a steal for a car with such potential.
