Why I ALWAYS use nursery pots for potting up plants

Why I love Nursery pots, and you should too!

They provide excellent drainage, making it easier to prevent waterlogged soil and root rot. This is especially important for plants that are prone to root rot or prefer well-draining soil, like the Thai constellation!

Nursery pots are ideal for repotting. They come in a variety of sizes, making it easy to transfer plants to a larger pot as they grow. The pots are also lightweight and easy to handle, making repotting easier.

Pots and saucers are an affordable option for plant care. They are less expensive than decorative pots, making them a great choice for plants that need to be repotted frequently. This is especially useful for gardeners who need to repot a large number of plants (like me).

Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t have cute decorative pots! All my plants are in nursery pots inside of decorative pots.

By using a nursery pot as a "liner" pot, you can easily transfer your plant to a new decorative pot without disrupting the roots or soil. You also don’t need to worry about finding decorative pots with draining holes!

There is no downside really.

As always, good information. Thank you. I used to buy pretty pots w/o drainage holes. Then I bought a special drill bit to go through ceramic. Now I've started buying clear nursery pots to insert into my pretty pots

Yes! I absolutely agree. And it’s also easier to feel the weight of the pot (at least with smaller plants) to estimate how dry it is.
