Nah, crit animations are very old.

Trindamere, Blitz, Gangplank on Q and on AA, Alistar, there are plenty of champs before Thresh that has crit animations. I used to have 1% crit chance on runes, hilarious Blitzcrank Hulk Smash crit.

Sadly they got rid of Graves crit that the gun literally jumped of his hands and almost fly off, I miss it so much you have no idea.
