The production time really makes no sense. American TV used to make 20-30 episodes every year.

In my opinion, I would say that in the case of Dunk and Egg there could be a way to make it better by focusing on important bits and not having unnecessary elements whatever those could be. It is a bit of a mixed feeling for me. There is also the problem of the novellas not being finished and it is concerning since it could easily be a similar situation to the GOT show.

I think Dunk&egg will be just fine. As you said no dragons so were not wasting a lot of the budget on that.

I mean 6 ep seems like a good idea for adapting the Dunk and Egg books. They aren't about big geopolitical events with hundreds of characters (other than the mystery knight) they are somewhat self contained. This would limit any filler.

People need to fight against this trend and they need to fight hard.

1hr programming network television in the USA was near 22 episodes a year. That has trickled down to around 16-18 episodes a year.

1hr episodes on HBO were around 13-10. Now it's around 8 episodes a year.

Admittedly the qualitie of shows have gotten better over the years but the coast of these improvements have been placed upon the consumers. Such as Cable TV Prices, Internet Coast and Streaming Network Price Hikes.

The drop of episodes isn't just from Covid but it's also becuse of the two most recent TV and Movie strike. The 2007 and the 2023. After those the count has slowly came down but has been increasing in the last 3 year.

The consumer needs to push against this.

I find this first D&E book somewhat similar to Ledger's "A knight's tale" movie... Some of the tropes are the same...

For the watch and the lord commander !!

For brother Bittersteel!!!

After this season ending the way it did, Im a little Nervous about them handling the Dunk & Egg series…

I understand we have to factor in the budget, but maybe cause there’s not as bigger scale of battles, and there being no Dragons on The series maybe it will be better ?

I pray to the mother that the showrunners do that story justice.

Thank you for your content Mi’lord, the realm owes you a debt than can never be repaid!! 🗡️🗡️

If I had to guess, they'd do the first episode with Duncan burying Ser Arlan, maybe some flashbacks into his time in Flea Bottom, then his meeting with Egg and Daeron the drunken in the stable, then getting at Ashford and his intention of winning a tourney etc. All setup (selling his horse etc.). Then the Second, seeing some of the tilts and knights, Valarr, Aerion, The Laughing Storm etc. and Dunk trying to get himself in the lists, meeting Baelor, Maekar and company and also meeting Tanselle etc. The third episode Dunk saves Tanselle and spends time in his cell, and Egg tries to help him, then talking with Baelor and Maekar and shit. The fourth he spends trying to convince people to help him, the fifth is the trial day and that whole ordeal and the last one the aftermath, talking with Maekar and Egg, the funeral and stuff like that. There is definitely enough material for 6 episodes if they decide to take it slow and interesting instead of a breakneck speed like HOTD season 1.

There are many scenes of dialogue, many scenes of appreciating all those houses and knights, talking to normal people, watching the tilts, convincing people, fighting Aerion, deciding what his sigil might be, the fight itself, the funeral, etc.

6 episodes per season every two years warrants that we have the 3 novellas plus a new season set in dorne between books 1 and 2. Therefore George has 8 years to either release novella 4 or blood and fire for more spinoffs

Dunk and Egg should be easy unless they really try to screw this one up. Self-contained story, no big battles, and no dragons (which as you said means big $$ saved on CGI)

Amazing that on the other hand the rising costs are a worry and then seasons take longer to produce and at the same time they don't plan well and do these kind of last minute decisions.

When you have time and costs are high you need to plan well. Seems like the process has major flaws.

Exactly people are shifting back to older shows. Suits, supernatural start to trending on netflix. HBO older shows start to trending too. Game of thrones was releasing every year. Hope they changed their minds new trending is bad I hated.

I really, really, really hope they aren't trying to stretch the POVs and make it a mini Game of Thrones series with POVs in KL, and stuff. D&E is about both of them, the smallfolk and their much more contained stories, it isn't about thrones or power, it's about those characters and their relationship with Westeros.

I agree I don’t like short seasons but two episodes per chapter isn’t bad for dunc n egg

(Sry for my bad english)
I`m over 30 and I watched a lot of Series until today and I`m not happy about the modern Trends. They make much lesser episodes than earlier and yes they are longer in Runtime but often not better. More minutes pro episode doesnt fix the modern problems. Too many episodes with nonesense and "nothing" in Story, characterdevelopment, character intruduction, placcement or/and in Setting. Dont get me wrong, you can alway find a lot of epic and wonderful scenes and dialogues in every Serie but after 5+ episodes everyone check that the story is (often) rushed and have loose ends and characters often are out of role or context or have a not understandable breakdown or change, because of too less time to show and build up the real story and the characterdevelopment. You can feel this in so much modern series and the next thing is; why so much time for so less episodes? I know that today is today and past is past. But I realy want back to the time with 15-20+ episodes per year and not 6 per 2-3 years! (like star trek or Dr who) Sry but I think thats much too less episodes and much too long waiting time

I would also imagine in episode 1, they give us background on the first Blackfyre rebellion.

6 episodes? Fuck that. Just have one show with like 16 or so episodes and put ALL your resources into doing one season a year.

I wonder if a different stufio would be willing to actually pay the money needed to adapt these stories to however many episodes they require
