Happy scenes from Charlie Chaplin's "Sunnyside" (1919) put to "Keep on the Sunny Side" from the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack.

Lyrics:

There's a dark & a troubled side of life
There's a bright, there's a sunny side, too
Though we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view

Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us ev'ry day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

The storm and its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear;
Clouds and storms will, in time, pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear.
Let us greet with the song of hope each day
Though the moment be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Saviour away
Who keepeth everyone in His care

I love this song so much. I would sing it in church when I was a little girl. My father took my sister's and I to other churches and nursing homes to sing for them, this song was always one of them because we'd harmonize. Well, my eldest sister and I would. Lol. Since I was in Kindergarten, I've always wanted to hear a heavy metal version of this song. True story. Sometimes I feel as if I can't be the only one to have stolen an older siblings metal band t-shirt, Metallica (in my case) for Kindergarten picture day, I was grinning a big cheesy smug ass grin because I got away with it but not for long, my parents were a bit mad though. I still have that silly smug photo. Anyways, I hear the male metal version in my head so I can't make it myself, very heavy but melodic. Also, I love the video you chose of Charlie Chaplin. I love his first ever speaking role, it was (and still is) the best speech ever written for film, imo.

Such great fun to see this video with this song! My mother sang me this song many times and it breaks my heart to heart to hear it now. I think it was her theme song and I remember her singing it when things were not sunny at all.

I heard a beautiful version of this song when the credit rolled for a film with Rip Torn (he played a country singer). The film was from 1974 or 75. Does anybody know who sang that version?
