Not even a subscriber or a drinker but I gotta say the act of making these scratches my chemistry itch.

I think I speak for most when I say, would absolutely buy your mead if you were able to sell it.

A neat little tidbit is that this is also called a melomel! A melomel is a mead thats had fruits added either before or after fermentation. Some melomels even have specific names based on which fruit you use. A mead made with apples is a Cyser, a mead made with grapes is a pyment, and a mead made with black currant is called black mead!

The only difference I've noticed is the color is darker and a slightly more prominent fruity taste on the backend. It saves a lil prep time so you aren't having to wash the fruit, for smaller mouthed bottles it's easier to put thawed out frozen fruit. If you gave someone a blind test they probably couldn't tell the difference.

I hope you pop up again in my shorts. Once the experiment is done, be interesting to see the results.

I used to keep bees...honey didn't cost me much. My daughter still does. and we got our hives from swarm retrieval.. I did it for fun. Sadly, I moved to a development when I retired and the houses are close and nothing close. I used to live in the middle of a triangle that included 3 nurseries, and I lived next to woods. lovely honey.

The benefit of frozen fruit comes down to the cell walls being compromised by the freezing water inside each one. The complete breakdown to release the fluids inside.
(Try adding a portion of prune plums and just a bit of rhubarb for an enriching complex flavour with a `dry' finish. It worked well in a Riesling base.)

For anyone curious about brewing you don’t actually need any “brewing equipment”. A large jar or bottle works and you don’t need a bubbler a nice rag to keep the bad stuff out works, whatever as long as it vents and doesn’t let stuff in. And any yeast will do doesn’t have to be brewers or wine yeast, hell your old lady’s will work(I usually use bread yeast though). I started brewing in high school with a rag and glass apple juice jug. Wash your stuff with really soapy water and wash your hand all just prior to starting.

A friend of mine makes homemade mead as well, not nearly with as much fancy stuff as you have except for those "burping" mechanisms at the top (no explosions today), he's tried a couple fun flavors like a pumpkin one around fall time, and a blueberry vanilla one as well. They've turned out really well and it's pretty fun looking into the process

We need a longer form video where you sum up all the experiments you've made so far and what you've found out through them.

I would love to see a long video where you exactly explain how to make wine yourself. Basically like a Tutorial

Very cool experiment. I will have to find your next video on this! One other item to consider is that the frozen berries are typically picked at the peak of season (max flavor, sugar and juice). Fresh are often picked a bit green to handle shipping better.(less flavor & sugar).

Ive always wanted to make my own beer, but this looks interesting too.

If you're still paying out the rear for honey you need to find yourself an apiary nearby. We used to get a half gallon of raw honey for 15 bucks.

I'm pretty sure any keeper would love to barter for end products.

I'm obsessed with all of these types of experiments with mead. Like, this is so interesting to me and I love it so much

My guess as to why the frozen ones “release more juice” is probably because they’re frozen with extra little bits and juice as well to help make the weight of the bags. I mean, freezing also helps to break up all the cells and stuff so maybe it releases more flavor/liquid because of that, too, but it would also damage a lot of it so it’ll taste slightly different as well, on top of whatever differences between growing conditions etc.
