Real quick about fitness trackers: my sister has had an Apple Watch for years, and it actually saved her life recently. She went to her doctor complaining of something feeling wrong with her heart, but after talking through stuff with her, the doctor said nothing looked wrong. My sister then showed the health data her watch had been recording for the past year, with a pretty dramatic change in recent weeks. The doctor, armed with a little more knowledge of where to look, found one of her valves wasn’t opening or closing right, and that surgery was needed to fix the problem. She got the surgery and has been fine ever since. Her doctor even recommended to always wear the watch from that point on since it had so dramatically saved her life.

TLDR: while the precision or short term benefits of health trackers may be questionable, they are very useful to get a long-term picture that saved my sister’s life.
