I saw Julia the very first time she competed in the US and will never forget how she impacted me. I ran upstairs at the hotel to wake my dance partner up to watch her dance, because I knew she was exceptional. In truth, her dancing style is not even really my favorite type (too polished with hip action danced very high,  just not "latin" enough to my taste), but when she is genuinely having fun and she is fully in her body, her astonishing talent and skill as a dancer touches me the same was she touches everyone else. What an inspiring jive! One of the few female dancers I know who always steals the show and makes you look at her instead of her partner, no matter how good her partner might be. Lovely.

I love the choreography in these earlier dances. They used the closed position coupled with intricate footwork as opposed to the current fashion of walk two beats, hold, pose for 4 beats. The early choreography set them far above the bar.
