I grew up being a "bargain hunter" and have always been pretty creative. Especially these days with such high prices I can't believe that there must be plenty of people who buy things at Pottery Barn, etc.! I much prefer to "get more (much more) for my money and be able to make things my own, or create great gifts for others.
