Update from TIA's farmlet research trial during May 2024.

A long-term trial is underway at our dairy research facility to help farmers maintain efficient, profitable and sustainable pasture based dairy systems into the future. We have an ambitious goal to halve the amount of nitrogen fertiliser used on dairy farms.
We've set up four farmlets or mini farms and are managing four separate dairy herds under different pasture mixes and varying levels of nitrogen applications. This includes one farmlet where nitrogen fertiliser is not used at all.
Research Fellow Pieter Raedts provides some insights into the trial, including work to prepare the farm for winter, re-seeding the paddocks, and results from soil samples.
The trial is part of the DairyHIGH2 project funded by TIA and Dairy Australia.
