The Beach Boys - I Get Around (2022 Stereo Mix)

I recently listened to the updated Beach Boys compilation, Sounds of Summer, on Apple Music which featured new Atmos mixes of nearly all the songs. The first track I chose was one of my favourite, I Get Around, but I was somewhat disappointed. While I can appreciate that AI extraction/De-mix technology has improved, to use it on the mono mix alone seemed to me a missed opportunity as we already have a stereo backing track released in 2014. I was also surprised at the number of audible artefacts which gave a very artificial sounding feel.

For this mix, my aim was to try and expand the sound of the original mono mix but use demixing on different sources to make it true stereo. I also wanted to minimise audible artefacts. I took the stereo backing track and a capella from the Keep An Eye On Summer release. I extracted and moved the drums and bass to the centre, and placed the handclaps on each side of the stereo image. However, this does not give us all the elements of the original song! From vintage mono mix on the DCC version of Endless Summer, I extracted the double-tracked vocals and tried to achieve a good stereo blend using the single-tracked a capella - it's not perfect but I was quite happy with the outcome. I also extracted the missing organ and lead guitar parts, which are panned right in this mix. It's not flawless, but I am pleased with the overall mix and consider it an improvement on the 2021 Stereo Mix.

Well done! It's only the lead guitar break, and maybe the organ, which I can't make out (right channel) that I feel is kind of buried, but overall it's a great listen.
