ND got 14 million dollars just for beating Georgia. The money doesn’t end there. There are HUGE financial benefits for being independent in the playoffs with their huge brand. If your favorite team wants to be independent and make their own money than go ahead no one’s stopping you

If being independent is such an advantage and is so easy why doesn’t anyone else try it

So no one has a problem that Notre Dame can't get a top four seed no matter how they play, but Notre Dame keeping all of the money instead of sharing it with a conference is a problem?!? That's different-level dumb!

If Franklin is upset about ND not having to share, go back to being an independent and try making it on your own. This isn’t an ND problem, it’s a you problem

Conference affiliated schools *willingly agree to give up independence*
Then they say: "Hey, that's no fair. How come they get to be independent?

They also get nothing if they don't make it to the playoff. No one shares with them either.

Notre Dame cant get a bye week but they do get all the money. Seems like a good trade off.

We are NOT joining a conference, you clowns.

Notre Dame doesnt get a bye, secondly, they also are held to a higher standard in season because of not playing in a conference championship game and they just won a major bowl game.

Many people that get to “talk” about football, really have very little understanding of it.

But ESPN will never discuss the 8 conf game schedule that the SEC and ACC doesnt do

If it's such a advantage to be independent get out of your conference and become independent I think all teams should be independent

Being an independent is the most American thing ever

ND gets to fly around the country and play whoever they like. Why would they give that up. Had Penn State decided to stay independent. The ND PSU rivalry would be one of the biggest games every year.

No one is forcing anyone to be in a conference!!! So stop with all the ND as an Indy should not be the case.

Conferences have way too much control over the sport and are making the sport worse. I wish more schools would return to independence. Teams don't want to play conference championship games, but have to simply because of the money generated.

I BELIEVE THIS STATEMENT ON FIRST TAKE IS INCORRECT! Don't just take it at face value. I do not believe JF is upset or alluding to the 14 million dollars at all. Obviously, it's up to interpretation, but from the press conference, I felt he was just making it a general point to have more uniformity in CFB. He used ND as an example.

The reason I do not believe he is talking about money is simple he is in the B1G, and PSU already makes more than ND through their respective TV deals. B1G teams annually get around 90 million, while ND's deal with NBC and ACC is worth around 65 million a year. I'm not sure that comment about 14 million is what JF is talking about at all, and there was nothing in the press conference to suggest that.
