Key thing to note is WHAT ARE YOU USING YOUR COMPUTER FOR!

Don't just listen to "influencers" blindly.

If you are playing ESPORTS titles and competitive games. This advice applies. Refresh rate to get information faster than your opponent is 100% the priority.

If you are a MEDIA user. Play single player games. Watch movies. Work with video content. THE PICTURE QUALITY is more important than refresh rate.

Do you homework, Google the info, don't be sheep

I also feel like 1080p monitors usually have more features at an affordable price because 1440p monitors are amazing but usually affordable ones are only at like 120 hertz or 75 hertz, 120 is by no means slow but I got a 165 hertz BenQ Mobiuz Monitor for $140 and it has built in speakers, adjustable height, swivel, and tilt, and the build quality is amazing.

eh it more comes down to budget and use case. for me I have a 240hz 4K QD-OLED display to see all those fine details but I have it set to 120hz as my 4070 SUPER cant handle anymore performance than that at 4K. HOWEVER if you are used to higher refresh rates like 165hz or higher and don't care to see all those finer details then DO NOT UPGRADE RESOLUTION! doing so will tank your FPS dramatically making the upgrade pointless if you keep similar refresh rates.

friendly reminder that if you want the best frame shown on your screen then you want 2X the FPS than you have hz for refresh rate so for a 144hz monitor you want to hit 288FPS or more to always have the latest possible frame shown. and going from 60-120hz is good, 120-144hz is questionable, 120-165 is alright, 144-240hz is great, and 240-500 is great. the problem is you need to be able to output at LEAST as many FPS as your monitors' refresh rate. small changes to the refresh rate will be noticeable but each rough double to it will be good, but remember most people wont be able to tell the difference at rates higher than 240hz very easily without being used to split-second timing in decisions in fast-paced FPS titles.

competitive games:
refresh rate > resolution

casual gaming/multimedia type stuff

resolution > refresh rate

I use 1080p on a 27in monitor. My eyes cannot accpet it and my wallet is less accepting than that

I made the jump 1080p 240hz to 1440p oled 240hz. I definitely notice more clarity and sharpness. It’s pleasing to look at. If you have a high end system than can put out 240fps at 1440p it could be worth it

Refresh on top cause I’m gaming resolution doesn’t really matter unless you are 5mm from your screen looking far away while refresh WILL make you better

Higher res all day long unless you’re a competitive gamer

If u play esports games stick with the higher refresh rate. If u play single player or rpgs then switch to a 1440p. I recently switched from a 1080 to 1440 and i can tell u i have never felt better about playing games like ghost of tsushima

4k is best in single player but refresh rate is best in pvp game according to me

I mean it depends if the guy is playing competitive games or single player games.. 2k for single player games surely the change is very much noticeable but guessing from him already owning a 280hz monitor he’s probably a competitive player so the recommendation is quite right

I would take do the same but anything lower than 240hz I’m taking the other option
