I wanted to show some of my Nkisis(a totem that a spirit inhabits). While, we’re on the subject I wanted todo talk about Santa muerte. Now, though she is known to be a Mexican deity, she has devotees all over the world (remember Death is universal meaning pretty much anyone is able to be a devotee). It’s interesting because being that my head Orisha is Yemaya, something that was brought to my attention by my Babalowa was that children of Yemaya are known to be a very good spiritualist. Why is this? Think of how many souls have passed away in the ocean throughout the decades/centuries, she has a very good connection to the dead (also in one of her incarnations she was the owner of the cemetery). In SOME circles, the ONLY entities that can work with Santa muerte are the 7 African powers (the Orishas)(if you look at some of her statues they have those 7 colors as well) because they are the “path” or connection to death/ also even thinking in terms of Oya (because Oya is the last breath you take before you die & first breath when you are born) even in Palo Mayombe when you get scratched, you learn there is an entity that has a similar energy (Yaya NDOKI) hence why a lot of Tatas/Yayas incorporate her in Palo. There is a history of Aztec roots to her as well, there was a specific day of the year where they would have a feast for the goddess of the underworld Mictecacihuatl (Lady of the Dead).
She is known to assist in all issues, she’s a neutral deity meaning used for “good/blessings” & “bad/cursing”.
There is said to be set rules regarding working with her (for the most part self explanatory)
•spend time with her/interact
•no having s*x in front of her altar.
•no being drunk in front of her altar
•she doesn’t work with all other energies/deities
•she is known to be loving/enduring however vengeful if crossed/or you break a promise you made to her.
•testing her (saying stuff like “if you do this, I’ll believe in you”).
•Rushing her(asking twice)/being impatient/being disrespectful/talking negative to her/comparing her/making fun of the statue/etc.
(Read pinned comment) Did I miss anything? If you’re a devotee please let me know & educate other people in comments who are interested in working with her!
