The real problem was the Justice Department, Judges and the entire Justice System moves way to slow. The reason some people seem above the law is that they can slow down and intimidate the system. If any regular people did this stuff they would already be in jail.

Jack Smith deserves credit for his bravery. He took this case on knowing that, thanks to Merrick Garland, there was probably insufficient time to prosecute it before the next election.
Merrick Garland, on the other hand, deserves our opprobrium. He waited for 2 1/2 years to appoint an independent counsel. 2 1/2 years after the Capitol was stormed. 2 1/2 years after members of Congress, including Mitch McConnel asked for investigation and prosecution. 2 1/2 years after several state attorneys general deferred their cases against Trump and his fake electors. 2 1/2 years during which the January 6 committee referred a number of cases to Justice for prosecution.
Garland's intransigence can only be interpreted as an intentional slow-walking of prosecution in an effort to protect Trump. He's not fooling anyone.
