By the largest motor that the boat is rated for. If your boat is rated for 115 then power it with a 115. The larger motor doesn’t have to work as hard.

there are some mathe you count how much your boot whigt and what you need off engin

1. what do I want to Use this Boat for. (purpose)
2. Can I Store It AND Maintain IT with low complications and affordability.
(that should include the rate of depreciation and towing distances and types of vehicle necessary) these are the Practical Affordability(s) including having the time to enjoy it, seasons etc.
The cost of gas/oil consumption and "INSURANCE"!
3. WARNING; the boat builder will have HP specs (they are low) but an Over Powered Hull can Loose control.
(plus; the manufacturer (Boat" will NOT honor warrantees, if the hull cracks or transom get smushed?)
Rule o thumb; if u want to go 70mph, then forget about fishing although most Bass Boats can!

U dont need a "Mod VP 270hp Merc" on aviation fuel to ski.
