When it comes to opening the hatchimals you are supposed to rub the heart with your thumbs and this will cause it to warm up the heart and change colour and at that time you give it a push and it should open without smashing. You're only meant to use the bottom of the egg if you choose to and that's just to sit your little character in. It looked like your bottom was still intact. I hope you didn't hurt yourself too badly I know they can be quite Sharp. In no time you'll be a wiz. Good luck. Another hint, often the toy channels will remove the plastic before filming. It's not just difficult for you it's difficult for everyone. They make the Blind packaging especially hard to get into because they don't want anyone peeking to avoid getting duplicates.
