Why Great Cars Like This Can’t Last Forever (Porsche 911 GTS manual 2023 review)

Full review of the new 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 992 with the optional 7-speed manual transmission, including performance, handling, ride, price, options and features.

The Porsche 911 GTS is close to perfect. With its 353kW flat-six engine with forced induction but no palpable turbo lag and an optional seven-speed manual, this could be the last of the great, non-hybrid Porsche 911 Carrera models.

In fact, time is running out on a bunch of great cars because of an impending wave of tough emissions regulations that will affect us here in Australia even though we aren’t part of the European Union. Tom explains why.

The Porsche 911 competes with the BMW 8 Series, Mercedes-AMG SL, Bentley Continental, and other luxurious and sporty vehicles.

Great review. I’m an Aussie living in the US and own a manual 2020 992 C2S, have done 16, 000 miles in it (25k km’s or so). I also have a 2023 Polestar 2 LRDM and fully concur with your thoughts on where these play well together. It’s a great combination and I’ve mentioned to my friends more than once that having the P2 has made me appreciate and enjoy the 911 more. It’s less refined and takes more work to drive but early morning runs take on a whole new dimension. Just a shame Porsche Australia took so long to offer the manual in Carrera model 992s.

I’m so happy that I’m taking delivery of my 911 GTS in June this year…

Tom, Porsches well heeled 911 customers will demand the ice in my opinion.
The Germans are looking at synthetic petrol as well.
Who would want a sports car without a transmission and a clutch?

agreed, ordered one of these last with a toddler, specifically a gts coupe as the only way to get rear seats, 3 pedals and tether hooks. However, things have gone from bad to worse over at the Zuff, so my spec with pts, ceramic brakes, exclusive manufaktur interior, have all been stopped at factory. My build will most definitely be pushed back to a 992.2 - i'm hoping the rumors of the GT4 4.0 making it's way into specific 911 models is true, as that would truly be last of the great ICE 911s

Nice one Tom. I hope people listen…the lack of manual 911s in Australia is shocking. I’d buy one in a heartbeat but come on Porsche, that options list…$5k for an axle lift?!.

PDK is not an "automatic" -- it's the 21st century manual, and the range-topping GT3 RS uses it exclusively. Tiptronic was an automatic.

This would be the perfect car for my weekend away this weekend, Southern Highlands to the Holden Museum at Trafalgar then on to Lakes entrance and back via Bombala, Cooma and Canberra.
So if you could drop it off about lunchtime tomorrow that would be great thanks Tom.
But the Passat is fuelled ready to go if you can’t make it. 😂

Cars would last longer if road surfaces werent so rubbish. Be more efficient if no speed bumps . More park and ride would save wear and tear in citys.

Am I right in assuming 7th is basically a highway gear?
