7:50 At least in Montana (where I go skiing) the snow melts off on the North face more than the South because of different sun exposure. That can cause one side of the mountain to be completely covered in snow and the other side bare. Also the shape of the mountain can cause more or less snow to be blown off by wind.

The reason for the patchy snow is because the mountain is so high in elevation that any storm system that tries to pass over it is intercepted by the mountain and all of the rain or snow will fall on that side. Since most storms travel to one side of the mountain, the other side is left with no precipitation since the clouds get cut off.
