For centuries, mathematics has been considered one of the most complex and difficult subjects. But two teenage mathematicians from Chicago have discovered a 2000-year-old theorem proving that mathematics is anything but complicated!
Monique and Quincy, two Black teenage students from the South Side of Chicago, were surprised to uncover a theorem written by the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid 2000 years ago. But the young mathematicians went a step further and became the first to prove it.
Their theorem is simple - “That if a straight line falls on two straight lines, the inside angles on the same side will add up to less than two right angles.”
This theorem has been around for centuries, but no one had been able to prove it until these two students. They created a hypothesis, used geometric principles, and then put everything together to arrive at their conclusion.
Their proof was recognized by professors and mathematicians all over the world, and they were awarded the National Science Foundation Prize for Distinguished High School Achievement.
