Entanglement Leaves Seal With Big Scar

Показать описание
The rocks at Cape Cross are slippery - once an entangled seal reaches those, the OCN rescuers have very little chance to catch the animal without getting hurt themselves.
Denzil lives up to his reputation as "The Flash" and reaches the target just on time and secures the animal in the rescue net. The team removes a piece of green trawler net from the animal. As soon as the rescue is done, the team identifies another target. Her wound is already very infected, but the rescuers can peel a piece of a nylon bag out of her skin. With the help of the saltwater, she will be better soon and only a scar will be left behind.
Both rescues happened in 2021 on one of our rescue record days. We are proud of our achievement, but the joy is overshadowed by the severity of the situation: there is plastic everywhere, and animals die because ocean littering has no consequences for the responsible parties. 🦭
