I not only watched the astronauts step onto the moon for the first time on TV but also watched Apollo 10 to Apollo 17 launch from across the Indian River in person.

FYI in 1968 only parts of Delhi had television service and other parts of India did not. Those televisions were built using vacuum tubes which made them thick. Cities like Bombay etc got televised service in 1970-71.

Going to ramble for a moment.

I remember Mercurochrome!!! I swear that for every cut this was used on during the time. It looked like blood in a bottle.
A friend of mine had an ant farm as well. You would always get these gimmicks in a comic book, along with "X-Ray Glasses". The Ant Farm was pretty cool though.
Banana seat was a great thing for a kid at the time but unfortunately not for me 🙂. It was a fad when I was too young but remember them and the craze.
I have 3 older sisters and they were all crazed Beattles fans!
Of course, Apollo 11 was such a big thing to watch live on TV. You have to remember that at the time we had something like 5-7 channels. We could get Monty Python and sneak that early morning.

My dad was a mercurochrome was something my dad was crazy about using, I think it was because it was so good in the field when he was a Sergent in the US Army in the Korean conflict.

Iodine was the main plus w/ it, tho, IMO.

I was 2, almost 3 when it played on the TV... I remember the setting, my grandparents, mom, dad, my uncle who was still at "home" w/ my grandparents maybe the neighbors who didn't have a TV yet and their family... all watching the moon landing. My uncle (Rodney) & I were on the floor in front of the TV. But had to keep our heads down, so everyone could see.

- I'm a kid from the 60's (born in 1960); LOVED Fizzies - but not to drink. instead, my friends and I would have a contest to see how long we could keep a tablet on our tongue!!! One can only take so much "fizz" :D <3
