Guilty Pleasure Music?

"Guilty pleasure" seems to be a phrase that gets thrown around a lot. Most of the time, it's meant to insinuate that the listener should be ashamed to like an artist or song. We couldn't disagree more with the term guilty pleasure. In this video we share songs and artists that seem to get stuck with the unfair term and we explain why we think you shouldn't feel guilty listening to anything.

The song that I shamelessly declare my guiltiest pleasure is "Disco Duck", but not the original version by Rick Dees, which was never played by radio stations in my country. Instead, what I kept listening every single day during late '76 and early '77 was the version of the song recorded by Canadian singer Paul Vincent. I had the chance to hear Dees' version many years later, and honestly I don't like it in spite of being the original (proof that the best version of a musical piece isn't necessarily the original but the one that hits you first). I LOVE Vincent's version (you can find it in my channel if you want to hear it).

My vinyl collection includes "classics" by Jason Donovan, and The London Boys. They're possibly even first editions, definitely bought in the eighties!

Your guilty pleasure is basically the standard for my record collection. It's as much new wave and hair metal that I can get.

Was a big EWF fan so had to have the Philip Bailey album. I think people ragged on the Hair Metal bands because their look and their antics were silly but the music itself was very good. I have recently gotten into listening to that type of music and been amazed at how well it sounds especially bands like Slaughter and Poison.

I agree 100%! No one should ever feel bad about the music they love. Btw, I love that Starship song!!

Great video!! I ( chris ) get laughed at for enjoying Meatloaf. If I have to many drinks I can sing along with almost any song from bat out of hell and Bat out of hell two.

Easy Lover is such a jam! The sort of tune that should be played at an obscene volume when out in the car with the windows down so the public can enjoy also, ha! If anyone isn't familiar, I highly recommend the documentary that the Culture Club made upon the creation of their latest record, it's a great watch.

I suppose the two big ones that I used to be ashamed to like in my youth was ABBA and Hot Chocolate, but how can you deny their quality as the years pass?! I'm very much of the mindset like what you like and don't give a fuck about what anyone has to say about it!

I am like you that I don't like the term guilty pleasure, if you like it, own it. My band that I like that i have gotten crap for is Jethro Tull. It is not their fault that they won the Grammy.
