Glass protection wont matter. Even gorilla victus will break if there's a sharp object. I bought a metal and glass sandwich design phone (Poco f3 gt with gorilla glass 5 both front and back) 2 years back and i still regret it. The metal body immediately gets dented with even small drops. The glass back got completely shattered, and again after replacement. Front screen got a crack from one end to other. Now I want a lightweight plastic phone. I will always use tempered glass and a case so it won't matter. So save your money and don't pay a premium for oneplus 12r if you only want build quality.
If the back gets dirty you can easily get a skin or a back cover. Front needs tempered glass anyway.

I don't think its a bad build quality, After leather there is a good back protection and you haven't talked about side frames, which looks to me is a metal, also phone survived in the bend test.
