The more I use tractors for small delivery the more I realize I rather run 2 miles of belts instead.

I have not messed with the trucks yet - but when I do, I am going to put a smart splitter in line to remove any "Un-natural" thing for that line as a preemptive measure and put them in a storage container or Awesome sink. - But I do want to know (like you do) what happened to get a mixed load. Great solution you came up with, the toll lane approach. Very nice! And Thank You!

The trucking system really needs some love, It's gone mostly unchanged since version 5. I weep for whoever had to re-drive all those routes because the depot layout changed.

I remember in my old save my tractor kept getting stuck on my expanding infrastructure (railway and conveyors). I just didn’t have it in me to delete it since it ran coal to my very first itty bitty power plant. It was kinda cute just having that little guy bumbling along like he was important.

Ran into the same issue. I had to move my tractor stations further apart and further from the main road. The radius to load / unload is very forgiving.

Hey Doc! Just wanted to say I really appreciate your videos and information - you do a fantastic job of really making larger scale concepts easily digestible and you have an overall great "vibe".
Trucking can definitely be a bit cumbersome to get things set up that don't act strangely. I have a habit of placing trucking stations outside of manufacturing centers and keeping stations grouped by item type - all of the coal delivery in one section, all of the iron deliver in another section, etc - that way nothing is ever delivered incorrectly! Trucks do need some love in terms of how they recognize the intent of recorded pathing.

For the life of me, I don't know why trucks automatically pick up/dropoff just because their route is near a station. They should only interact with stations that you manually interact with while recording the route

This is why I abandon trucks as soon as I get rail. Rail is far more reliable and when well designed can support equal maximum throughput, and higher minimum throughput. It also requires smaller buffers for high throughput production chains (quick wire for instance)

I believe to fix this, if you go into the truck route and "view nodes, " you can delete the pause point at the truck stop. That way there isn't even a load/unload point for the truck route itself. Worked in my world at least. Plus, smart filters are always nice to add in as a safeguard when building future truck/train stops. Just in case :)

You can interact with nodes and delete the stop nodes that are at the wrong stops. I know this because I have used trucks and tractors exclusively in a 500 hour save, ran into that issue a lot. Love me a road network lol but it comes at the price of checking every route after you record it!

Yeah I had that problem nice and early. Luckily it was for the same item so no mixed resource nightmare. My solution was just to just give each stop its own unique section well away from the main road. They otherwise work surprisingly well. Even managed to make a trading route that delivers different items to and from each location with a single truck.

Maybe I think differently, but I usually see it as a good thing when conveyors that “stutter” a bit or back up entirely for several seconds happen. I am playing the game on my first playthrough ever, I’m in the beginning of Aluminum production.

I have no idea what I’m gonna need in the future, so a stuttering conveyor or backed up one is confirmation to me that I will have *plenty* of that resource node for future production through overclocking or more machines.

Don’t get me wrong, I will use a smart splitter to direct overflow into a Sink, but that’s *after* a storage unit is filled up first, and often times I remove the sink entirely when I see something else I want the extra materials for.

Great truck deport, love the design. How easy is it to change all the routing of them, do you have to reset them all up again and manually record the paths? However it does sound like more AI work needs to be put on them with proper signals like trains etc, and scanning for collisions.

I gotta figure out how to use trucks. I think I don't give the Tractor enough consideration and I've been struggling to keep the couple truck lines I am using moving.

I get frustrated trying to setup of Stations cause Trucks are so big I end up using a ton of space anyways and feel I might as well switch to trains

Everything changed for me when I read a comment that said that you can fix unintended truck station stops by deleting the extraneous pause node.

Well, okay, it hasn't become relevant for me yet, but it's made a big difference to my future plans.

I found that if a truck goes over another truck stops pause point it will unload on it. It sucks and I wash coffee stain would do something about it.
