The S60 sits in a CROWDED segment of luxury sport sedans but it sets itself apart with sharp Scandinavian styling and a class exclusive Twin Engine PHEV powertrain. Volvo sent me this 2023 S60 Recharge Ultimate Black Edition (a $1,945 option) in Crystal White Metallic, with the insane Bowers & Wilkins Audio system ($3,200) all for around $63k. And while the S60 isn’t inherently a sporty vehicle, it’s smooth and solid feeling ride, quiet well trimmed cabin, and impressive power make it a fantastically efficient luxury daily driver. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: Volvo T8 “Twin Engine” eAWD Powertrain. Front mounted 2.0L Turbo 4 (312HP) + Rear mounted eMotor (143HP) = 455HP and 523 lb-ft of torque combined. Up to 41 miles in EV mode (I got 38 miles), 4.3 sec to 60 MPH (I got 4.6), and 30 MPG city/33 highway 74 MPGe combined. 14.9-kWh battery, 3.7-kW onboard charger, 15.9 gal fuel tank. 🏁

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highs:
-Sharp looks inside and out, especially with the Ultimate package, B&W stainless steel speakers, and Black Edition exterior trim.
-Vault like driving experience with a quiet cabin, solid feeling chassis, and smooth ride.
-Impressive fuel economy, EV range, power, and smoothness of the powertrain transitions for the price. (S60 Recharge stars around $51k)

Lows:
-Interior tech needs some major work despite it being rather simple for daily use. Gauge cluster & HUD lacks customization.
-Interior space is TIGHT for the class, 0 center console storage.
-Chassis & steering don’t live up to the crazy power numbers, it’s focused on luxury, and smoothness vs sporty and dynamics.

Overall: 9/10

Great video, I like that you box some of the detail stats in a box on top of the screen, this really helps if I want to pause and take a closer look, nice touch. i would have liked to listen to the B&W audio in a stationary and moving situation, and curious if the new Google system has more voice commands than the previous Sensus screen, ie, can you change the drive mode by voice command? Over all great job, I have ordered a 2024 and look forward to the experience.

I’ve waited 18months for my Recharge Ultimate to be delivered to me here in the UK, and this was probably the most accurate review I’ve seen. This is a 3/5 car at best (company car ordered unseen). To your points….the storage is woeful. I emptied out my previous BMW hybrid and was left with a decent supermarket size shopping bag of stuff that didn’t fit. The space under the armrest is pointless, but with a short 8” lead you can stand your phone up in the shaped holder in front of it pretty successfully. The Apple CarPlay function does require hard wiring, as you mentioned. I guess that will kill my phone battery prematurely over time. Hopefully Volvo can fix that with a system upgrade. 455bhp in a car with a wooden chassis is pointless. My previous BMW’s with 100bhp less would be quicker A-B. The steering and general chassis is nervous at high cornering speeds with a combo of understeer and torque steer making things tricky. This is a point and squirt car if you want to access the power. Love the way you point out the lack of power boot (trunk), but say it’s not a problem as there’s a handle and it’s pretty light so your hands won’t get dirty, then proceed to finally close it by putting your hand on the (dirty?) lid.😂 That simple omission is crazy. The UK Ultimate model doesn’t have HUD, customisable dashboard, interior mood lighting, and a bunch of other things unlike my previous Beemer, nor do we get the excellent B&W sound system😢. Volvo has traded off comfy seats and safety for years, trouble is the Germans have all that stuff too, and more. This model sits at £55k over here. For that money there are better options, IMHO. As I said, your review was pretty much on the money. Good job👍🏻
