Fun fact:
Cave Generation back in the older versions of the game such as 1.0, were naturally much larger than the caves in the current versions of the game. Also back in 1.3, CTM maps (complete the monument) were becoming far more popular, and one of the more popular maps at the time, known as "Kaizo Caverns" from the Super Hostile Map series created by a map maker called "vechs" had many largely open caves in the map. So it does make sense for "The guy who hasn't played in 5 years" to believe he has seen this type of cave generation before. Though I will admit the natural cave generation back then was nowhere near as extreme, it was still far larger than caves in versions like 1.17. Why they removed this feature and made caves much smaller I am unsure of.

I highly doubt this was actually planned, and is most likely just a very large coincidence, but it is still nice to think about. ^-^
