Ok, but surely you guys know that Tim Burton basically used this technique for Jack Skellingtons head; using over 400 individual heads to capture all his expressions.

This is basically what Laika does, just with their characters' faces. Facial expressions are 3d-printed/sculpted, but the bodies are still moved by hand since that's much more efficient and cost-effective than 3d-printing the entire character frame-by-frame.

The promotion on the previous video, this short and then what the final video ended up being... probably one of the best subversion of expectations i have seen, actually pretty impressive, changing the expectation at best leads to a wow moment, but this one was actually pretty sweet.

I'm not explaining much because if you read this and haven't watched the video yet, i encourage you to watch it, however hopefully i didn't ruin the video by commenting this because now you could get a different expectation, making this an "expectationception".
