The show is inspired from the famous humorous column 'Duniya Ne Oondha Chashma' written by the eminent Gujarati writer Mr. Tarak Mehta. This story evolves around happenings in ""Gokuldham Co-operative Society"" and covers topical issues which are socially relevant. The show predominantly - revolves around Jethalal (Dilip Joshi) who is an uneducated Gujarati businessman. Tarak Mehta (Sailesh Lodha), is his neighbor. Jethalal finds a friend and philosopher in Tarak Mehta and often goes to him for advice whenever he is in trouble. Jethalal's family includes his simpleton wife Daya Ben (Disha Wakani) and a mischievous son Tapu (Bhavya Gandhi). Tapu is a menace and a constant source of trouble to all the members residing in the Gokuldham Society. They have often warned Jethalal to reform Tapu or else be prepared to leave the premises. If TMKOC were more realistic :

1. Popatlal got married 6-7 years ago to Daya's relative girl and has 2 naughty twins who causes trouble to him, Jetha and Bhide. Both Popat and his wife works to support their household. Popat's mother in law lives with him to take care of the kids. Champak has a crush on her.

2. Mehta Sahab adopted a baby girl 5-6 years ago. His daughter is quite nice and understanding like 1st Sonu.

3. Jethalal takes Tapu with him to Gada electronics (OR)
He got a small mobile phone shop opened for Tapu so that he can learn (OR)
Tapu manages e-Gada electronics.

Tapu is not good in electronics business. He want to do event management. He has part time event management business in which he earns very little.

4. Champak, besides flirting with Popat's mother in law, gambles all day round with young-old group friends and plays cards etc to pass time.

5. Babita and Iyer had a child who is very naughty and want to become a Hero when he grows up. He always causes trouble to Jetha and shares that sort of relationship with Jetha like Jetha-Goli.

6. Goli failed in neet. His parents got him admitted to a private Medical college. He is not fond of medicine-study. He watches food videos all day round on youtube. He has many re-(s) to pass to complete MBBS.

7. Madhvi's achar-papad business became a little big. Bhide works in school as well as provide tuitions to earn enough for Sonu's wedding.
Sonu studies hard and is preparing for entrance exams etc for higher studies.

8. Nobody notices Pinku. He decides to work with Matka King Mohan to get noticed.

9. Sundar also got married. His wife is 10 times more troublesome to Jetha than Sundar. Every 2nd day they come to Mumbai with their naughty kids.

10. Sodhi takes Gogi with him to Garage to teach him work. Gogi becomes alcoholic under effect of his father and other Garage employees. Now Roshan has to deal with 2 alcoholics in the house.

11. Abdul owns a bigger shop/Mart near the society.

12. GADA family will get Tapu married to some girl like Tina and definitely not Sonu.

Madhvi took Abdul's old shop space on rent for Achar-Papad business. Sometimes (during festivals) Sonu helps her in making chocolates for business.

Tina, despite being rich and all, is jealous of Sonu.

Abdul's family moved with him to Mumbai. Now they don't understand how much Gokuldham people pay him for his labour.
