I have both. The Note 2 holds its own pretty well, even in the screen department, but the S4 really is a better overall device. What really surprises me is that you can see the same amount of a web page on the 5" S4 screen as you can on the 5.5" Note II and both are readable without zooming.

The only thing that would drive me to the Note would be if I needed the S-Pen and, while it is handy, I don't find it to be a necessity.

Made my decision, note 2. Though I do feel silly sometimes at work when I am talking on what call a small paper back book. But on the flip side I am in love with the bigger screen and, better price($149.95 sprint upgrade).

S4 overheats fast, even when playing not-heavy 2d games. Note 2 only overheats when you're playing heavy game for a long time,  but when playing Dead Space, it doesn't even get any warm. S4 has annoying update notification, it will force you to update to jb 4.3, which includes knox that will notify you again every month if you postpone. But s4 is really smooth, sensitivity is good, camera is too damn good. But i suggest note 2 or note 3, if you want bigger screen

The battery life on the note 2 is much better than the s4.
To have a high end smartphone that I wasn't afraid to actually use as much as I wanted to throughout the day was worth more to me than benchmark tests.
