We used to make small quilts for the hospital to wrap stillborn babies in. We made a 12x12 inch bound block to go with it as many of the babes were buried or cremated in their quilts, and parents kept the small block as a memento

So lovely to see you again from Adelaide South Australia.i make quilts for foster kids of all ages.so many of which literally come into the system with only the clothes they have on.Sheer tears of joy and wonder from them when they realise the quilt is theirs to keep forever 💕💕

I work with the Omaha Furniture Project. A local fireman has a charity that furnishes home for refugees or people who have lost everything. He presents one of my donation quilts as a final gift. It is very satisfying for all.

I agree, Karen, with your theory that rocks were sewn into the corners of quilts to keep the ends from curling up. I think it would also help keep the quilt lying flat at a picnic or at the beach on a windy day.

My coneholder is a coffee mug behind my machine near the wheel with a safety pin taped to the machine and thread passing in the hole in the pin. Works great and no cost involved.

I am using my Mother's 1970's Singer machine and it is in a table. My Father drilled two holes in the table on the right side at the back and he used a metal coat hanger, one piece for the large bobbin of thread and a taller one for the thread to go up and over the arm of the machine. He bent them so they wouldn't fall through the table and a hook for the thread to go straight up and over the arm. It is still working for me and my quilting today. My Father loved making little things like this for my Mother.

I have my Grandmother/ Great g-mother’s treadle machine. A Queen circa 1880-1885. I just completed piecing a quilt top for my younger sister. I’m in the process of FMQ on my sit down long arm. How fun to think this quilt was done with equipment from 3 centuries!!

My stash grows organically. I have a very good friend who collects from her quilt guild and periodically I get gifted with boxes of fabric! So much fun to separate into colors/tones (thanks, Karen for your vids on colory theory). I feel like I’m the “Iron Chef” of quilting.

Lol, thank you! I enjoy your Q&A and your interview shows. I'm a beginner quilter (I've made 2 tops) and stumbled across your channel a little over a year ago while looking for some help with color. I've since turned one quilty friend onto your show when she said "I wish I could get color like you do, " though I am by far perfect at color theory, and another when she asked where I get some of my ideas for "tools." I recently watched another you tube show of a quilter where she moved all her quilts into her living room. There were hundreds. Oh, my. I see material and think I would love to make a quilt with that. But, short story, I made one for a friend's daughter once and later while at her house saw it, filthy, on the floor as a dog bed. I now struggle with the idea of donating. I'm a health care worker in Michigan and your channel healped bring some reality and sanity back to my world when it felt like my world was surreal and going insane. I do watch other channels, but yours is the top go to. Thank you!

A fishing box is useful. I keep sewing machine needles and presser feet in one.

5 yrs.! A project on going. Got you beat... a "dragon", coat. Mid calf length, sweat shirt/fleece base, fussy cut, background machine applique, when lined will have decreative top stitching. Also non quilting, 5 x 7 foot, hooked rug. Original design, customed dyed wool... 12 years in the hooking. The cat reverse hooked one. 3 x 3 foot corner. He didn't agree with my colour choices. It is sea shells in shallows.. so you are on a roll with only 5 yrs., on a project. I sew tops, hook &knit daily. Also cook, read and am a antique dealer for 60 yrs. Keep calm and be busy on. Thanks Karen, you are a bright spot.

I buy background by the bolts - basically white and black - esp when it is on sale - but I don't buy them when I have more than a half bolt left in that color. And then I can cut it up to my hearts content. It gives me a chance to concentrate on the colors and without worrying if I have anything that will go with the colors.
