“Brush Strokes”, with a subtitle “Ink on Paper” is already my third composition inspired by one of the principles of Japanese calligraphy – drawing an entire figure without lifting the brush from a paper. This becomes the main principle of textural construction. Textural elements in this particular piece emerge from the physical aspects of calligraphy, such as thick, sudden and dance-like moves with a human-sized brush and precise micro movements used to perfect each detail. I envision this composition as a calligraphy that is placed in an art gallery with a tiny description of technique underneath, that says: “Ink on paper”.
