I typically hover c2-c3, and I think a lot of my team-mates forget to have fun. Remembering that you're playing with and against people who all just want to have fun and win games, goes a long way. We are all just here to have fun, and it's that mindset that'll keep you able and ready to perform the mechanics that got you to the rank you are at. You might know some insane shots, but they're absolutely useless if you hesitate too much, and are unable to do them in a game.
I'll put it like this, in c3 2s today, me and my team-mate played two gc1s. It was an absolute bloodbath, we didn't even give them a courtesy Brazil trip. I think by the end of the game it was 8-0. My team-mate was saying "Sorry" literally any time he hit the ball. In this guys mind, any time he hit the ball, he was doing more harm than good., to the point he was just playing permanent goalie. About a minute in, I score our first goal - faked the everliving fuck out of both opponents, watched them go flying past me while I just walked the ball in, and we were just laughing our asses off in voice-chat during the replay. My team-mate was easing up a little bit, but he was still playing goalie. I score another goal, off of some ugly half-fake half-bounce dribble, he messes up the kickoff, and we almost get scored on, and he retreats back to net, so I put the ball up on their side, rotated out, grabbed full-boost, and talked with him for a second. I told him in voice-chat something like "chill out, it's just a game, we're the same rank, and we're up 2 goals, we have some leeway to dick around here" Next time we get possession, he takes the ball and hits the nastiest ceiling musty right in the corner pocket, and it legitimately broke them. They were what a saving themselves, quickchatting themselves, committing, over-committing, and double-committing on everything, and it just made it that much more fun.
The way I think about it is; My team-mates are the same rank as me, I've learned a vast amount of mechanics and have a unique playstyle, and my team-mate has an equally large arsenal of mechanics at his disposal, that are things I probably can't do, and they have their own unique playstyle to match. If they didn't have a certain playstyle, and they didn't have mechanics, they'd be in plat - where the people might know how to perform certain mechanics, but can't quite yet apply them consistently in their games. Obviously something got this guy to my rank, and I want to see what it is.

okay, this might work for you to get to gc, but it wont work for you to get off gc. this tip is the reason why 99% of the people in gc tends to play unnecessarily fast, throwing ball possession away and being mechanicaly inconsistent.
instead, practice boost management, shots, dribbling, positioning etc., notice how I didn't even mention flip resets, ceiling shots and this kinda of fancy mechanic, because although these mechanics are important for having the power to catch your opponent off guard, all you need to get off gc is to improve your consistency overall, and that's all.

Its worth mentioning that playing the ball faster DOES NOT and I repeat DOES NOT mean taking the shortest path to the ball, in order to hit accurate shots, passes, dribbles, first touches, pops, you need to almost always cut into the ball or hook the ball.
You can see tenacity doing this here subconsciously, the advice isn’t bad, just don’t take it too literally or you will play like shit in ranked.

Playing fast is really op, only by ball chasing with no mechanics i reached c3. Many seasons later greatly improved mechanics and aerial control, but didn't get higher than gc1, because game speed>mechanics.

bro, i practice this cuz i had no hope to hit GC1, i have been stucked in c1 and 2 for like a month or 2, i practice 15-20 minutes this and i just did hit C3, this is the highest rank i ever had, i always said that was my teammates fault, and thats the reason i wasnt in GC1, but i just carried them like they were not with playing with me, i made a lot of really good shots, the best one i hit a ceiling flip reset double, when they both were on the net. im trying to hit GC so bad, now i think i finally can do it, i just carried a GC in a match full of low gcs, i almost take the win by myself being a C3. I´m always practicing in freeplay air dribbles, flip resets, doubles touches, and all that, so i got too much mechanical for my rank and i got a really good rotation and position, i feel like im a GC1 already
