If you're constantly buying fake meats, cheeses, etc then yeah but using whole foods like potatoes, grains, and others are a lot friendlier on the wallet

This argument about vegan food being more expensive is so tiresome because it has been proven wrong so many times in many different contexts and ways

If you can cook; vegan food can be a fraction of the cost and twice as nutritious.

If you're purchasing premade food; in my experience it's usually the same price or slightly more expensive.

If you're eating out; vegan food tends to be overpriced.

A lot of the disparity in price can be attributed to the fact that meat is heavily subsidized on top of the fact that it's often combined with soy. The cheap imported meats that you'll get in microwave meals usually have more soy than meat so if you're broke but want to eat vegan then you're already halfway there <3

I think there are two major problems here:
1. People are so attached to eating meat that they think you cannot enjoy vegetables on they're own and that you need to have something that tastes and feels like meat.
1. People are so used to buying premade food instead of cooking home that they only think about what they can find in the supermarket

I don't get why people say it's expensive. It's literally EVERYTHING that is not an animal product. There's nothing cheap about meat and cheese these days

It is 100% based on what you buy. If it is all pre-packaged then yes. If you plan and prep and have the space to store it then no.

My wife is from Mexico and when I visited for the first time after changing to a vegetarian diet, she said that the poorer people are vegetarian or outright vegan because they can't afford meat. And in restaurants there, the cheese filled options vs meat filled products are the cheapest options. Vegan products are sold a premium there, but if you buy the ingredients then it is cheaper. And there are a lot of meat products with TVP filler as cheaper options, because meat is more expensive.

My mom grew up in a working class family with little money during a dictatorship and rationing... I'll tell you this much: they could not afford to eat meat everyday! I learnt to cook from my mom, and what she knows best (since she had to learn to cook at a young age to help at home) is stews, soups, lots of potatoes, grains, legumes, seasonal veggies... Cooking simple vegan meals with easy ingredients in batches is the best way to save both money AND time! I've lived in three different countries and this has proven right all the time ^^

Vegan food is definitely delicious and much better to buy it instead of non vegan alternatives

I literally started saving money on groceries after going vegan 🤣🤣🤣
The natural vegan clothes and bags and shoes are generally always the cheapest anyway and if you're sticking to foods like vegetables, lentils/legumes, grains, seeds and fruits, your diet will be extremely healthy and also super affordable.

I found that making the switch to a plant based diet opened the door to a a wider variety of foods. I find that the indo-pak and Asian grocery stores to be less expensive.
Then get you a Vitamix for silky sauces and creamy dips😊

It depends on what you're buying and where you're buying from. Stick to mostly Whole Foods. It's the mock products that add up. Only get those occasionally and you'll be good.

It can be as expensive as you want it to be/can afford. Funnily enough, sticking to WFPB is usually cheaper, and much healthier. Though I will buy burgers/pizzas/mock meats etc every now and then, and thatll put the grocery bill up.
I make massive pots of healthy vegan chilli's and stews, they don't make it to the freezer though because the omnivors in my house always steal my stuff, so it can't be that bad 😂

Even with produce costing so much more it's still cheaper than buying eggs, cheese, and meat. Frozen veggies are also still relatively cheap

I’m a meat eater, but I live with my vegetarian girlfriend. After about 1-2 months of living together and cooking separate meals I noticed her grocery bills were a fraction of mine bc of the meat I bought. Now I almost always cook vegetarian and we spend about $30 per week on groceries. Not vegan though because we get eggs from our friend’s chickens and cheese from the local farmer’s market. That saved money allows me to afford to go out to restaurants and eat meat on the weekends that is way better than I would’ve prepared it!

I think the misconception might come from the fact that many vegan restaurants or options are expensive and… often not very good, despite that.

I think people really underestimate how cheap and tasty homemade vegan food can be.

These videos make me so happy! I don’t eat meat, and I only eat dairy from local kosher farms that don’t separate calves, and my grandma’s unfertilized chicken eggs. This gives me the courage to go full on vegan!

I grew up with my mom making rice and lentil soup every night for dinner. We weren’t vegan it was just a cultural staple. I went to college with a massive 20lb bag of rice and 10 lb bag of lentils (cost me ~$40). Lasted me nearly 2 semesters!
