Tip to speed up drying process. Squeeze as much water out as possible then roll the wool item up in a towel and press/squeeze. It’s a gentle way to remove as much water as possible then lay flat to dry (preferably with air circulation around whole item), most hotels will have spare towels (or travel microfibre towels work a treat too).

I love Merino wool, but for thermals I prefer silk. I've even used them skiing. Silk is so thin and washing and drying are a breeze. Being thin they add no weight under clothing.

Merino Country [Australia] have thermal tops and bottoms in 175gsm and 275gsm so you can choose exactly what you need. They are made like regular leggings and tops so can be on show even with dressy clothes.

I wear my Uniqlo long johns as leggings when traveling. Look just like tights but I do make sure I wear with a long top or jumper

It's March in Santa Barbara. It's so frickin' cold and windy I'm getting some thermals.

Great to know! I spent last October in Germany and took some thin silk thermals and Tippi sweaters per your recommendation and that worked well. However, these would be good for colder weather. Btw, I have 3 Tippi sweaters and plan to buy more - I love them!

Great review. The link for the Minus33 Merino Wool Franconia Midweight Bottom is the same as the top ;).

Like the (earlier) review of the Tippi J. Crew sweater but do you wear it (with it's 3/4 sleeve length) over this thermal top? I'm guessing that doesn't work very well?
