Her husband was Peter III and they didn’t ever seem to like each other. He’d wanted to become King of Sweden not Russia as that was how he was raised-

One time Catherine woke up with a rat hanging above her bed, Peter said the rat committed treason by nibbling at his soilders and would hang there for days.

“Played with toy soldiers”
A kindred spirit I see, I think him and I would be good friends considering we are both clearly autistic.

Her husband didn't want to be the Tsar of Russia, he wanted to be the King of Sweden.

When he became the Tsar, he didn't even try. Then, he married Catherine, a very ambitious woman with a terrible childhood.

He got dethroned easily.

For Catherine though, her mistake was that she didn't teach her son whatsoever about how to rule, thus Russia still became a backwater even after her reign ended.

Peter III actually did a solid bit during his rather short rule; it was just VERY unpopular with the nobility and church, which resulted in a lot of demonization after his death.

Some speculate that Peter was autistic and would hyperfixate on games that involved strategy. He also didnt like physical contact and would have episodes of frustration when overwhelmed with demands. This also entailed acting younger then his physical age.

As far as I know, Catherine was mostly just popular with the rich and the church and specifically catered to their demands and lived in according luxury. Her husband had - successfully - gone against this, through secularizing the country for example, and therefor was unpopular with those in powerful social positions, making Catherine‘s rule a stark contrast to his.
Definitely not the best person in history to hype up.

All her revolutionary decisions benefited mostly noble people, she made a law that peasants can't complaint about their owners and she gave away like 800 thousands peasants to noble people.

Some play war, while some embody it. She brought art and science back to her people, that deserves recognition. As do your continued efforts, thank you Ms. Mae✨

As a Pole, I’m not a big fan of Catherine the Great haha. She was of course instrumental in getting her lover, Stanisław August Poniatowski, elected as king of Poland, which of course did little to prevent her from fully partitioning Poland.

I don’t want to be sexist here but the only reason why people are saying “yes queen” to Catherine is solely cause the fact she’s a woman and took over the throne. She forcibly took away Poland and then let the poor die while favoring the nobles only. If it was a king who did this we’d all be saying how horrible of a king he is, but of course double standards at its finest.

Also because of her my country, Poland was ripped to pieces and you could get a death sentence or get sent to Syberia for speaking polish on a street. It was occupation and russification, and because of that many russians still see Poland as theirs. But yeah, praise her. Those who never experienced such invasion of their own country would never understand.

When people put "The Great" into someone's title, they mean it
Edit: Chill :, } I didn't know, I'm sorry!

And also she was responsible for slavery in Ukraine and destroyed independence of Poland. "Great" indeed

People defending her either have no knowledge or are just sick, she made peasants slaves, was cruel to animals and didn't even expand as a leader.

and then her son who idolized her husband (who btw isn't even his father) made the inheritance rule so that women cannot go on the succession anymore which turned so ironically because it indirectly caused the downfall of russian monarchy just 200 years later🤡

(also another fact he made sure that catherine wouldn't get a proper funeral but instead gave his "father" a state funeral and moved her burial next to her husband so she can spend hell eternity with him)

Also erased Poland from the maps for a very long time

Augh when will people understand that catherine wasn't a "girl boss". She caused a lot of suffering to the working class and ukranians
