Ukraine says it has liberated four villages in the south-east of the country in the first victories of its counter-offensive.

Officials reported on Monday that "the national flag is once again waving" over Storozhove, along with neighbouring settlements of Blahodatne and Neskuchne, as well as nearby Makarivka in the Donetsk region.

Moscow has yet to confirm the fall of any of the villages – which are relatively small, and says Ukrainian assaults in the region have been repelled.

Taking back villages is one thing. Taking back cities is a whole new ball game, not easy. But what a great guy to state that there will be no opposition to Zelinsky until the war is won. Huge respect for that.

Remember Normandy 1944, it took the alleys say 7 weeks of high intensity infantry fighting to achieve the break-out from Normandy and 7 weeks later they had liberated Paris, Brussels and the port of Antwerp at 600 km. The number of troops involved in Ukraine is 20% to 30% of the size of the troops in Normandy, but also now a real break-thru will take some weeks of high intensity infantry fighting.
