I'm thankful for the Mehta/Israel Philharmonic cycle...one of my favorites. The horns are ferocious 😮

It’s probably worth having a broader conversation about conductors who outlive their mental and physical fitness for the job. Those you mentioned plus Dutoit, Alsop, etc. My fear is Neeme Järvi is entering that category now too. 😢

I'm wishing Mehta had done the cycle with the LA Phil back in the day.

Mehta has always been my favorite conductor. I agree that he should have stopped long before now. Seeing him conduct just makes me sad.

I was ready to knock the Israel Brahms cycle…but when I finally listened to it a few months ago…it was really nice.

Its not just conductors. You regularly have people in big 5 and other top tier groups in the US either dying in the chair or playing 5-10 seasons past complete cringe.

Not just in the music world, but it seems everywhere, old folks beyond past their prime who just can’t let go and give room to younger folks.
