Hippocrates, the ancient Greek philosopher and father of medical science, was born in Kos on the 27th of Agrianos in 460 BC. He was the son of Heraclides and Faneraytis and came from his father's generation from Asclepius and from his mother's generation from Hercules.

Apart from his parents, teachers of Hippocrates were the Sorgist Gorgias, Demokritos Abderitis and Dietitian Herodikos. Medical science taught her at the schools of Cnidos and Kos and also traveled to Greece and to distant countries such as Scythia and Egypt.

A great scientist as Hippocrates, he relieved medicine of superstition, he did not hesitate to apply new healing methods, by first enlarging Asclepios's nursing homes while making religious medical teachings accessible to young doctors.

And of course, it is worth mentioning Hippocrates' great discovery when he saved Athens from the terrible sickness of the plague. It was a disease that brought thousands of citizens. How many Athenian citizens have died do not know exactly. But it is known how many died in the army from this disease: 300 horsemen and 4,400 hoplites. For seven whole years it has plagued Athens with the plague.

And the evil would go on if Hippocrates did not appear himself, who was then at the height of his age and his scientific career. He was tired enough studying hours endless to the devastating epidemic. Hippocrates, then, observed that those who were at ease or not at all were the blacksmiths. The fire, therefore, concluded that it was the salvage medicine. And he advised the Athenians to light large fires throughout the city and burn day and night. So the damned illness disappeared. Since then, Hippocrates has been named FATHER OF MEDICINE.
