Many a book I'd like to try again because I think I was just in a bad place in my personal life and that can affect your reading mood. Assassin's Quest comes to mind, ha ha! I hope Dune and Dark Age work for you the next try, as I adore both. Happy reading!

Thanks! For all the Great Content keep them coming, I'm the same when it comes to Discworld also tried to read them and couldn't really get into them I've read two out of the order it's all taste and what u like and what you don't and I didn't really like it everyone's different though, many characters resonate differently with different people we're all different and it's good to hear everyone's opinion, have a wonderful day I'm off to finish Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames and then read the last book An End of Sorrow by Michael R Fletcher

Since you prefer epic and action scenes, for your second try at Discworld, I’d recommend “Guards! Guards!”. I strongly believe you’d find it more entertaining than Mort and Small Gods, at the very least.

Though I'm very interested, I've not read a Song of Ice and Fire yet, but one thing I've heard of that many say has made books 4 and 5 much more engaging is reading both books at the same time using a guide called "the Boiled Leather reading order". That method ensures you get to keep up with every character rather then only half of them for a book - which I believe George only did because of space constraints - plus, the person who put this together kept in mind not ruining dramatic reveals, therefore delaying certain chapters when appropriate.
Of course, you may really want to see if the books improve on a 2nd read without any meddling, but if your interested, just search "all leather must be boiled" and it should be the top result from Tumbler.

Nice video! I am reading Long Way to a Small Angry Planet right now - nearly finished with it. It definitely helps being in the right mood for some slow placed slice of life sci-fi. I'm just coming off reading Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie, so its a nice change of pace for me.

Great video! Totally agree that both expectation and mood plays a massive part in how much you enjoy a book. I'm with you Kharkanas Trilogy, I bought but never started Fall of Light. Love Malazan so I'll give these another go too. I didn't find A Dance with Dragons great either. I'll reread the series when the next one is released (hopefully). Glad you're giving Dune & The Shadow Rising a second go - I think both books definitely improve on rereading (I liked them the first time round but still they improve). Here's to a great 2023 for books, new and old!

Great video! The last three videos you have uploaded has shown many faces of you. We first saw the hopeful then the salty and now the forgiving Petrik.

You’re rating of Dune is higher than mine 😂 but I think mood is a really big part of how much you enjoy a book. Life is crazy and sometimes you’re not in the right headspace

I feel into the same boat with Dark Age! I enjoyed it but was my least favorite! I think I'll join you for the series reread!!!

Thank you Petrik! This video gives me even more courage to try again some books that I think have potential, but I was not ready for them on my first try. "She Who Became the Sun" had an excellent first part, but for some reason I got stuck at the first page from the second part. Other works I plan to try again actually next year: "The Killing Moon" by N. K. Jemisin and "Exhalation" by Ted Chiang. Saving a second chance for the LOTR for retirement, maybe I'll be more patient then.

I read both assassin's apprentice and royal assassin this month and loved them. Then I saw your review of Royal Assassin on Goodreads and now I'm nervous lol. I reread Mistborn era 2 this year and Alloy of Law improves a lot on reread. And I liked Shadows of Self more than Bands of Mourning as well after reread. I think you'll like enjoy Elantris more on reread. I read it this year and while it's not my favorite Sanderson, it still is signature Sanderson. He is so good at world building and creating a world that feels unique and interesting. I think the characters and writing are probably why people don't like it, but they are fine for a debut novel.

I first read Dune as a teenager and was captivated by the world and the intrigue - it was very atmospheric, but there was quite a bit l that didn't understand - it was a bit foggy to me. Rereading as an adult, l found l now get all the nuances of the people and politics l didn't understand before - so definitely appreciate it in a different way now!

Sometimes we consider something number one. Not because it is, but because we have many memories connected to that book or to the time when we were reading it. I love a tv series which is really not as good as anyone will consider it to be. But still i sometimes watch it because whem i first watched it i was very young and there are many a memory connected with that series.

It's amazing the amount of books you read. Now for my 2023 I have "Of Blood and Bone" and "The Five Warriors Angels". I need to start adding Sci-Fi, any books recommendation standalone or series?

You could try the alternative reading order of feast of Crows and dance of dragons. It alternates the chapter from one to the other

I love giving second chances to books that I didn't jive with the first time around! My most successful rereads have been Gideon the Ninth and First Law trilogy so far, absolutely fell in love with both on my reread!
I never got to Dark Age because I wasn't really a big fan of Iron Gold, but I have a feeling that might become another new favourite once I give it another shot. And now that I've finished the RotE, I am also really eager to go back and re-experience the whole thing... curious to see how I feel now that I know where things are going!
Other books that I have on my radar for second chance reads are The Ruin of Kings, The Winter King, Age of Assassins, Traitor's Blade, Godblind and Rage of Dragons. Fingers crossed they will all be hits upon reread!
Also, no matter how much I might end up enjoying WoT... I don't think I will ever find it in me to reread that series lmao.
Great video 🤩

18:20 I totally agree. Feast for Crows and Dance of Dragons was really mid the 1st time but if you read the books without burnout but with little enough time in between that you still know what's going on these books become easily better than Clash of Kings (which is quite good cuz we get Davos & Stannis the Mannis the One True King) and Game of Thrones (tho I feel like GoT is the weakest cuz it's quite slow and if I didn't know how good it would become I'd might have DNF'd it)
